Oak Grove School celebrates its 125th Anniversary


The British Raj laid the foundation stone of Oak Grove School, way back o­n 1st June, 1888, amidst the sylvan surroundings of Oak trees nurtured in lap of mighty Himalayan idyll, in Mussoorie. It is o­ne of the finest residential English medium schools, run o­n Public School lines and presently affiliated to the Central Board of Secondary Education (C.B S.E), New Delhi.

            The sprawling campus of 254 acres with engaging wide playing fields, ultra modern facilities like smart class rooms with the latest audio-visual teaching aids, well equipped computer labs and modern kitchens to provide wholesome food to the children and the meticulously preserved heritage buildings in Gothic Architecture, designed by renowned Chief Architect R. Roskell Bayne, lenda uniqueness to this institution which was established to provide quality education at affordable cost, as extant in England in those days ,to the wards of Anglo Indians serving o­n the Railways.

Currently, this premier institution is owned by Indian Railways and is being run and managed by Northern Railway.

            The school has been striving towards excellence ever since its inception and our students have made their presence felt in all the walks of life round the globe and are maintaining strong bond with their alma-mater.

 It is a great pleasure that the institution shall be celebrating its 125th Anniversary (Quasquicentenary) o­n 1st June 2013. In order to mark this momentous occasion, numerous functions are being organized in our school bypresentations from teams of various Zonal Railways from 21stMay 2013 to 1st June 2013, which are as mentioned below:-

On 21st May, Cultural team of Central Railway, Mumbai will perform Tabla recital; o­n 22ndMay, “Sambal Puri Folk dance” by Cultural team of East Coast Railway, Bhubaneswar and “Bhangara Dance” byCultural team of DMW ,Patiala; o­n 23rd May, the team of South Western Railway, Hubli will present “Bharat Natyam Dance’; o­n 24thMay the cultural team ofN.F. Railway, Guwahati (Assam) will stagethe Drama –“Dhol Ka Mol” and o­n 25th May, Students of Oak Grove School will present “Fancy dress and Fashion show”.

On 26th May, “Inter school dance competition” will be held. o­n 27thMay, a group dance performance (Contemporary) by Tanva Dance Ensemble, Delhi and Oak Grove Staff will give the Cultural programme.                            

On 28th May, Cultural group of Rail Coach Factory, Kapurthala will perform the drama “Aur Chetna Jaag Uthi”. o­n 29th May, Sambhav Munch Parivar, Dehradun will perform the drama “Charan Das Chor” and “Naman” and Light Vocal music performance by Cultural team of West Central Railway, Jabalpur (M.P).On 30th May there will be a presentation of “Kathak Dance” by Northern Railway participants.

      On 1st June 2013, the final day of Quasquicentenary, Mr.Vijay Kumar Gupta, General Manager, Northern Railway and Board of Governors of Oak Grove School would be the Chief Guest.
