General Manager/South Central Railway conducts a high level review meeting on the present situation of Power supply and running of trains.

Shri A.K.Mital, General Manager, South Central Railwayconducted a high level review meeting o­n the present situation of running of trains o­n SCR in view of shortfall in supply of power to Railways at some traction sub stations. Principal Heads of the Departments concerned participated in the meeting held at Rail Nilayam, Secunderabad today i.e. o­n 08th October, 2013.Earlier, the General Manager spoke to the Chief Secretary, Govt. of A.P. and discussed o­n the prevailing situation of supply of Power to Railways.

The General Manager directed the officials to maintain a continuous watch o­n the power supply position to Railways in close liaison with the State Government officials and also the movement of trains 24 x 7 from the emergency control rooms at Rail Nilayam HQ and in the Divisions.He advised the officials to accord top priority for the running of Mail/Express trains and Passenger trains duly utilizing the available resources for running these first.In case of any shortfall in the supply of power to Railways, the movement of goods trains shall suitably be curtailed to facilitate movement of passenger carrying trains. However, all efforts should be made to keep the goods trains also moving during times of adequate availability of Power and using Diesel locos whenever necessary.

He reviewed the position of availability of Diesel Locomotives, especially in Vijayawada-Gudur-Renigunta Section, which can be pressed into service to haul trains in case there a major shortfall in power supply to Railways traction system. The General Manager emphasized to operate special passenger trains wherever feasible to clear the passenger rush.He also directed the officials concerned to keep Diesel Generators ready as per need to ensure that supply of power to signaling systems at stations is not affected.

Despite intermittent failure ofPower supply to Railways at several sub stations in Vijayawada and Guntakal Divisions,train services have been run normally o­n 7th and 8thOctober,2013 o­n SCR system due to close monitoring and initiating appropriate immediate remedial steps. There have been no new cancellations of train services announced by SCR (except for o­ne Express train for want of pairing rake from East Coast Railway) and all services continue to be run normally.

To facilitate clear the passenger rush, 9 special passenger train services have been operated in Vijayawada Division o­n 7th and 8thOctober,2013. During these 2 days, 15 Express trains have been run with Diesel locos in Electrified sections as per the demands of the situation, which ensured smooth running of trains without any cancellations or diversions.32 Diesel locomotives have been kept in readiness to be used to haul trains in electrified sections in case of any major problem related to power supply.Thus, SCR is geared up to handle any emergency that may arise out of any possible disruption of power supply to Railways and strives to minimizeinconvenience to Rail users, given the present situation, through various means as above.
