SCR takes steps to minimize dislocation to Train services in view of disruption to Traction Power Supply at some places

As the employees of Andhra Pradesh Power Transmission Corporation went on a Strike at some places, shortfall in supply of Power to the Railways has been noticed at Railway Traction Substations located on Vijayawada-Gudur-Renigunta and Renigunta-Guntakal sections intermittently from 06 00 am of today i.e., 6th October 2013, which affected smooth running of train services on these sections.

However, with a view to handle any situation arising out of disruption of Traction Power Supply to Railways, South Central Railway undertook concerted efforts to minimize dislocation to train services / inconvenience to passengers by running train services to the maximum extent possible within the given circumstances. Some of the focused measures taken in this regard are detailed below:-

1.On receipt of information about the strike and the resultant likely shortfall in Traction Power required for train movements, the SCR administration, led by Shri A.K. Mital, General Manager/SCR, has immediately swung into action and activated emergency control rooms at Railnilayam, the Head Quarters of SCR and also in the Divisional offices concerned. These emergency cells are being manned 24 X 7 by Senior Officials from various departments to strategize and implement suitable plan of action as per the demands of the situation. Shri K.L.Pandey, Addl General Manager / SCR monitored the position in the Divisions from the emergency control room at Railnilayam.

2.Senior Officials of SCR have been in continuous liaison with the officials of Govt of Andhra Pradesh, especially with the officials of AP TRANSCO, and also with the officials of the adjacent Zonal Railways. Senior level Electrical Engineers of SCR have been stationed at Vidyut Soudha, Hyderabad to closely monitor the supply of Power to various Railway Traction Substations and for necessary immediate action / co-ordination.

3.Priority is being given to ensure smooth running of long distance Mail / Express trains which link North to South, and East to South, traversing via Vijayawada and Guntakal Divisions of SCR. As a result, no long distance Express trains has been cancelled / diverted till 18:00 hrs of today.

4.There have been several instances of Power Supply being disrupted intermittently for a few minutes at various Railway Traction Substations located on Vijayawada and Guntakal Divisions. However, the situation has been closely tracked and brought under control by extending the requisite Power Supply from the nearby unaffected Substations immediately, which enabled running of a large number of long distance trains without much detention. Some of the Express Trains were operated through planned Diesel-Bridging also, where by Diesel locos have been attached on to the Electric locos and the Diesel Power was utilized to haul the train in the affected portion, whenever situation warranted.

5.As a precautionary measure and also to ensure continuous supply of Power with adequate voltage for the haulage of Express Trains in case of possible shortfall in power supply, the movements of Goods Trains in the above mentioned sections have been temporarily curtailed. Also 25 Passenger Trains and 6 Express Trains have been cancelled and 5 Passenger Trains have been partially cancelled, many of which are for the purpose of rake balancing.

6. In case of any emergency situation that may arise out of a possible major disruption to Power Supply to Railways, SCR is geared up to handle the situation through various means like hauling important Express Trains with Diesel locos, for which Diesel locos have been kept ready on Vijayawada-Gudur-Renigunta Section; suitable diversions of long distance Express Trains via convenient alternate routes in case of need; shutting down of Goods Trains and cancellation / partial cancellation of short distance local Passenger Trains to facilitate movement of Express Trains etc as per the evolving situation.
