NORTHERN RAILWAY HONOURS TEN EMPLOYEES THROUGH SAFETY AWARDS

In keeping with the practice of honoring employees, whose alertness and prompt action have resulted in averting a possible accident, through Safety Awards and as recognition of meritorious services, Northern Railway honoured the services of ten of its employees through Safety Awards at a ceremony held at Northern Railway Headquarters Office, Baroda House, New Delhi o­n 29.08.2014. The Awards were presented by Shri Pradeep Kumar General Manager, Northern Railway. Also present o­n this occasion were Sh. Anup Sahu, Addl General Manager, Northern Railway, Sh. Naveen Kumar Shukla, Chief Safety Officer, Northern Railway and the Principal Heads of all departments of Northern Railway.

The ten employees who were felicitated by the General Manager for their services are: Sh. Pradeep Kumar Technician and  Sh. Sadhu Ram Technician, Faizabad (Lucknow Division), Sh. Mewa Ram/Token Porter/Ram Ganga (Moradabad division), Sh. Shiv Kumar/Loco-Pilot Goods/Saharanpur (Ambala division), Sh. Harihar Parsad/ Loco-Pilot Passenger/Bathinda (Ambala division), Sh. Satendra /Loco Pilot/SRE(Ambala division), Sh. Kamala Sah, Loco-Pilot Mail/Delhi (Delhi division), Sh. Prabhanjan Kumar, Asst. Loco Pilot/Ghaziabad (Delhi division), Sh. Raju Saini Gateman/Mewa Navada (Moradabad division) and Sh. Ramesh Chand LPM/BSB (Lucknow Division)
Diligent and conscientious working enabled Sh. Pradeep Kumar and  Sh. Sadhu Ram Technicians of Faizabad (Lucknow Division),while performing rolling-in examination duty o­n 16.07.2014 detect Truss Bar in broken condition and hanging in passenger train No 13307 at Faizabad station. The broken truss bar was removed in time and train retro-fitted. The timely action of the above staff has enabled the railway to avert a possible accident.

Going beyond his brief of duties, conscientious working enabled Sh. Mewa Ram/Token Porter/Ram Ganga (Moradabad division) o­n duty o­n 08.06.2014 restore train services blocked o­n Ram Ganga bridge due to Alarm Chain pulling (ACP) just ahead of Ram Ganga station. The bridge is very narrow and it was not possible for Loco-Pilot or Guard of the train to check the train and reset the Alarm Chain. Shri Mewa Ram Token porter o­n duty at Ram Ganga station approached the affected coach by crawling under the train and reset the ACP. Shri Mewa Ram did a commendable job by resetting the ACP and returned by crawling under the train and informed the Guard and thereby it was possible to move the train.
Utmost vigilance and conscientious working was displayed by Sh. Shiv Kumar/Loco-Pilot Goods/Saharanpur (Ambala division). While working train Amritsar-Kanpur Express o­n 12.08.2014 observed that manned Gate No. B-27 between Amritsar-Mananwala was in open condition. He stopped the train by applying emergency brake. Similar dedicated working enabled Sh. Satendra, Loco Pilot/Saharanpur of Ambala division while working an empty goods train between Pilkhani-Sarsawa o­n 02.08.2014 observe that manned gate-91C was in open condition. He stopped the train by applying the emergency brake before gate. Alertness in working enabled Sh. Ramesh Chand Loco Pilot/Varanasi(Lucknow Division) detected gate open 51 –C & 52-C between Mihrawan-Mehgawan at km 847/05-06. He stopped the train with applying emergency brakes and informed to Guard. Through their diligent working, the above named staff were above to avert possible mishaps.
Keen attention to detail, presence of mind and intense concentration to duties enabled Sh. Kamala Sah, Loco-Pilot /Delhi (Delhi division) and Sh. Prabhanjan Kumar, Astt. Loco-Pilot Ghaziabad, Delhi division) on duty o­n 12.7.2014, while  working  train no. 12014, (Amritsar-New Delhi Shatabdi Exp.) observe  a piece of released rail of about 25 meter lying o­n the track and no hand signal or banner flag was displayed  at the site while train was running  in Sonepat-Rathdana section. The loco-pilots whistled continuously and immediately applied emergency brakes to stop the train and were able to stop just before the obstruction. After stopping the train the P-Way staff was working o­n site removed the released rail from the site and prompt conveyed the information to authorities concerned. The train was restarted from the site.
Utmost vigilance and presence of mind enabled Sh.Raju Saini Gateman/Mewa Navada (Moradabad Division) detect smoke o­n  a passing goods train ; the  token porter also reported smoke in said and the train was immediately stopped at the adjunct Seohara station. The affected wagon was detached and train re-started.  The timely action of the above named employee has thus averted a possible accident.

The meritorious contributions of all the above named staff were highly appreciated by the General Manager.
