PALANI-POLLACHI BG CONVERTED SECTION INAUGURATION

 train no. 02651 Palani - Pollachi Express Special will leave Palani at 7.45am and reach Pollachi at 9.10am. In the return direction, 02652 Pollachi - Palani Express Special will leave Pollachi at 4.45pm and reach Palani at 6.10pm. These trains will stop only at Udumalpettai.
Train no. 06710 Palani - Pollachi passenger will leave Palani at 10.50am and reach Pollachi at 12.25noon. Train no. 06709 Pollachi - Palani passenger will leave Pollachi at 3.15pm and reach Palani at 4. 55pm. Train no. 06769 Pollachi - Palani passenger will leave Pollachi at 6.15am and reach Palani at 7.40am. Train no. 06770 Palani - Pollachi passenger will leave Palani at 7.25pm and reach Pollachi at 8.50pm. These trains will stop at Pushpattur, Madathukulam Halt, Maivadi Road, Udumalpettai and Gomangalam.
Subsequently, the Madurai railway division has made some changes in train services to enable the running of special trains between Palani - Pollachi section. Some passenger trains have been cancelled from January 9. Train nos. 56771 and 56773 leaving Palani at 9.15am and 11.15am respectively and train nos. 56774 and 56776 leaving Dindigul at 3.15pm and 4.20pm have been cancelled. Also, train no. 56770 Tiruchendur - Palani passenger will arrive Palani at 7.20pm instead of 7.25pm.
Officials have also announced that the ticket counter at Udumalpettai will have both unreserved as well as a passenger reservation system (PRS) to facilitate passengers, book their tickets.
Meanwhile, Misra said that the Southern Railway is taking steps to take possession of lands for the extension of the Coimbatore - Pollachi railway project, which is a long pending scheme. "The work was stopped for a short while due to lack of funds and delay in land acquisition. Now, all the hassles are sorted out and we will start the work on that segment in three months," he added.
The section - a prominent one connecting southern districts with Western Tamil Nadu - was closed for gauge conversion work in 2009. After almost five years, Pollachi, predominantly an agrarian town will get train connectivity much to the cheer of train users in the region. Officials from the Madurai railway division said the special trains would be operated till the section gets regular trains in future.
