The 58th Railway Week Celebrations of Commercial Department of Headquarters of South Western Railway was inaugurated by lighting the lamp by the Chief Guest, Shri SANJEEB HALDER Chief Commercial Manager, South Western Railwaytoday (09-05-2013) at Railway Officers’ Club(ROC), Hubli, in the presence ofShri J. NAGARAJU, Chief Commercial Manager(Freight Management), SWR, Shri M. SARJAN RAO, Chief CommercialManager(Passenger Service & Catering), SWR.



While presiding over the function, Shri J. NAGARAJU, Chief Commercial Manager(Freight Management), SWR advised the Commercial Staff to inculcate the habit ofcourteous behaviour, politeness and patients as Front Line Staffto deal with the Passengers and other rail usersin giving railway information at the enquiry counters, Ticket Counters, TTEs in trains, Parcel Staff at Parcel offices and Goods Sheds.He complimented all the Commercial officers, TTEs, Parcel Office staff, Passenger Reservation Office Stafffor their dedication and untiring efforts put in to achieve organizational objectives.



Speaking on the occasion, the Chief Guest of the Award Presentation function, Shri SANJEEB HALDER, Chief Commercial Manager, South Western Railway outlined the performance of CommercialDepartment of South Western Railway during the financial year 2012-13.He said the performance of this Railway,sinceits inception in the year 2003, has been encouraging in all spheres of working.He said South Western Railway constantly endeavouring to provide the best possible services to the rail users.This has been achieved by SWR with limited funds and manpower availability, but there is still scope and potential for improvement to reach higher goals.

Shri SANJEEB HALDER, CCM said SWR has carried 192.93 millions of Passengers in the year 2012-13, which is 4.46% higher than last year.Similarly, SWR has earned Rs.1287.34 Crores from the Passenger traffic in the year 2012-13,which is 11.41% higher than the previous year.



He said in the freight front, SWR has carried 33.523 Million Tonnes of freight traffic which is less by 2.13%over the previous year and the freight earnings for the year 2012-13 stood at Rs.2,546.81 crores, an increase of 12.27%over the previous year.



Shri Sanjeeb Halder further stated that the total Gross earnings achieved by of SWR for the year 2013 was Rs.4,063.13 Crs., which is 11.82% higher than the previous year gross earnings.


Shri Halder said all the trains allotted to SWR in the Railway Budget 2012-13, have been introduced.In order to cater to the rush during summer/holiday/pooja seasons, special trains were introduced and also trains were augmented with 3273 additional coaches fetching an earnings of Rs. 12.07 Crs. during 2012-13.He further stated that to cater to the rail users, Computerized Passenger Reservation facility has been provided at a total of 149 PRS locations overs SWR.It consists of 39 Rail Head locations, 03 non-rail heald locations, 73 Unreserved Ticketing system(UTS)-cum-PRS locations, 2 Defence PRS locations and 32 locations functioning through India Post.He said SWR in co-ordination with Postal authorities to identify some more locations to introduce reservation counters.SWR expects to provide the facility of Mobile Vans for booking of PRS in and around Bangalore, so that the people can avail this facility.As on date, Unreserved Ticketing system(UTS) is available at 171 locations.In order to provide the UTS services nearer to the Users, Railway Board have introduced the concept of Jansadharan Ticket Booking Sevaks(JTBS) and are now available at 57 locations on SWR, Shri Halder added.

Shri Halder said refunds of passenger tickets are attended without much delay through Computerisation of coaching refunds.Once the travel details are entered in the PRS terminals provided at various stations based on the information given by the TTEs, the refunds are disposed within the minimum possible time without ny need to depute officials to verify records like in the earlier days.Clean Train Station (CTS) has been implemented at Hubli Station for en route cleaning of toilets, doorways and vestibule area of long distance trains.As a passenger friendly measure, mobile/laptop charging points have been provided in all the AC coaches and two points perother coaches.Automated Teller Machines(ATMs) have been installed at 62 locations on SWR, to cater to the needs of debit card holder’s population which is on the rise.The requirement of differently abled passengers is also one of SWR’s prime concern, for which required facilities have been provided at all A-1, A & B category station.All the Mail/Express trains have one Second Class Disable coach which has got wider entry space and friendly for the physically challenged passenger, Shri Halder added.



Shri SANJEEB HALDER congratulated all the awardees who have worked hard in improving the performance of this railway.He complimented all the officers, CTIs, Headquarters Flying Squad and other PRS, Parcel and Goods Shed staff who were deserved for the Railway Week Awards for their dedication and untiring efforts put in to achieve thetargets set by the Railway.Finally Shri Halder said innovation is a continuous process and he called up the staff to shower their ideas on new innovations for improvement ofRailways.With this dedicated work force, Shri Sanjeeb Halder, CCM/SWR hoped that South Western Railway would continue to excel in the coming years.



Later, Shri SANJEEB HALDER, CCM/SWRpresented individual & Group Cash awards with meritorious certificates to 121 Commercial Staff of various categories (including 03 officers) of Headquarters andcommercial staff of all the three divisions of Hubli, Mysore & Bangalore.


Earlier, Shri Rajkumar, Assistant Commercial Manager(HQ)/SWR welcomed the gathering.The other senior officials who were present for the function, include Shri J. Muralidharan, Chief Office Superintendent, CCM’s Office,SWR and other staff were present on the occasion. Shri G.
