Shri R. K. Gupta, General Manager, Eastern Railway addressed the interactive session of MCC Chamber of Commerce & Industry at Somany Conference Hall in Kolkata on 2nd September, 2014. Addressing the members of the Chamber of Commerce & Industry and the press, Shri R. K. Gupta, General Manager urged upon the trade & industry to come forward and offer more freight as Eastern Railway has now planned to carry more freight, this year, to generate more earnings. He urged upon various industry houses to offer their freight loading to Railways. He enlightened the audience about the progress, plans and the faster growth plan of Eastern Railway in particular and Railways in general. He assured the industry a more friendly relations for the growth of both Railways and industry in eastern region.
He emphasised on the punctuality in running of not only passenger trains but also goods trains for better economy and growth. This year Eastern Railway has planned for further electrification of about 500 kms of tracks within its jurisdiction. Escalator facilities will be extended to more stations for the benefit of passengers. Battery operated cars has already been introduced in Howrah & Sealdah stations. It will be extended to other important stations of Eastern Railway in future.
As part of integrated security system, installation of 200 CCTV cameras in Howrah and Sealdah stations for security of the passengers has been planned. Luggage scanners, hand-held metal detectors and extensive use of sniffer dogs will enhance the security at Howrah and Sealdah stations.
The station premises, nearby areas and platforms will be cleared by evicting unauthorized hawkers for which he sought the cooperation of passengers and general public. He informed that all encroachments at Majerhat station have been evicted and more circulating space has been created for the comfort of the passengers.
For maintaining the quality of food, regular inspections will be done by the senior level officers at Divisions. The food-samples will be sent for examination at authorized laboratories in the city at regular intervals.
For the safety of the passengers, even small incidents or minor accidents are being critically reviewed. General Manager made it clear that there will be no compromise so far as the safety of the passengers is concerned.
Earlier, welcoming the General Manager and other guests, Shri Sanjay Agarwal, President, MCCI appreciated various activities of Eastern Railway and assured of all help and cooperation to the Railways for betterment of both industry and Railways.
