South Central Railway conducted a Seminar to commemorate the International Day for Elimination of Violence against Women today, i.e., 25th November, 2011,at Rail Nilayam Auditorium, Secunderabad.A large number of women employees and office bearers of Organized Unions were present on the occasion.
Welcoming the gathering, Shri Manoj Pande, Chief Personnel Officer, South Central Railway enlightened the importance of the Day which is meant to protect the interests of women.He elucidated the provisions of various Actsenacted by the Government for the welfare of women.
Dr.Pauline Mary Domingo, Associate Professor (English), Railway Degree College spoke on the role of women in the society, towards the family and detailed the provisions incorporated in the Laws for protection of women rights.She also highlighted the Domestic Violence Act, 2005 meant for protection of women, quoting the relevant articles in the Constitution. She also explained the provisions meant for protection of women given by Government by various Forums.
Smt.M.Venkateswari, Senior Advocate, High Court of Andhra Pradesh, detailed the various Acts enacted by the Government for uplift of women in the society, specially from the rural areas.She emphasized that women shall be first educated, so that they can come to understand the various safeguards available for them and raise their voice whenever any act of violence takes place against them.
Dr.Indira, Principal, Railway Junior College, Secunderabad made a slide presentation relating to the violent incidents which occurred against women in the recent past.A skit was presented by the students of Railway Degree College, Lallaguda relevant to the occasion.
Smt.J.P.Kusumakar, Deputy Chief Personnel Officer (Administration and Recruitment) proposed the Vote of Thanks.
