Depot lands continue to dog the Hyderabad Metro Rail project.
Though most of the 100 acres at Nagole has been handed over to the L&T metro rail limited, the concessionaire building the project, there is still six acres of land occupied by marble shops which has to be taken over.
The earmarked 21 acre site for the Falaknuma depot is ready but the L&T has some issues about the topography and discussions are currently on sort it out.
Miyapur depot land of 100 acres continues to be mired in legal tangles as the government is slated to file for a fresh petition in the High Court.
Uppal depot as the site has been renamed has also caused some unexpected trouble to the Hyderabad Metro Rail (HMR) as it had to face dredging of the Hyderabad nala flowing into the Musi River. The nala got clogged due to dumping of debris, industrial waste, garbage and other sundry things over the years.
Danger of flooding
Senior officials realised that unless the drain was thoroughly dredged there was a real danger of flooding of the depot during heavy inflows. The work was taken up along with laying slabs on the drains, widening road and shift of transmission lines as well as poles in the area.
Cantonment land
Another pending issue of getting permission of the Defence Ministry for the Cantonment land for the Line Two – Jubilee Bus Station (JBS) to Falaknuma -- is on the way towards a solution with the HMR offering 25 acres at Jawaharnagar in exchange for the three acres – two at Parade Grounds for an overhead station for Line Three – Nagole to Shilparamam -- and one acre at JBS for the terminal station.
Price
HMR Managing Director N.V.S. Reddy said that a price of Rs.17.21 crore was calculated for the three acres at Rs.5.73 crore an acre and equivalent value of land of 25 acres was shown by the Ranga Reddy Collectorate. The file is under circulation.
The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) which has finally agreed to allow the elevated project to be built on the central media for Line One – L.B.Nagar to Miyapur, is to call for tenders soon. The Rs. 32-crore work (Rs.16 crore each) is to lay additional lanes from – Miyapur to Balanagar and L.B.Nagar to Mahabub Mansion, each stretch is about 10-12 km length.
