Endless wait for passengers as most of the trains delayed owing to fog

The fog is affecting the movement of trains. The foggy weather conditions are prevailing since the past couple of days. This has disrupted the movement of the trains and several are running several hours behind schedule. Passengers are facing numerous difficulties. They could be seen waiting at the Kanpur Central Railway Station for hours. The worst hit are long distance trains.
Over five dozen trains, including Kalka Express, Jodhpur-Howrah, North East Express, Seemanchal Express, Mahananda Express and others reached several hours late. A few trains were running over 10 hours late. Mahabodhi Express, Kalka Mail, Gomti Express, Kaifiyat Express were a few other trains that were running behind schedule. This left the passengers stranded for several hours at the railway platforms. Hundreds of passengers were witnessed inquiring for the arrival timings of the trains at the enquiry counters.
The wait for the passengers at the waiting halls is becoming endless. With the waiting halls overcrowded, several passengers had no option but to rest on the benches on the platforms. The chilly winds gave a tough time to the passengers. Gaya Sharma said that his family felt drowsy after a long endless wait for Jodhpur-Howrah Express and slept. The railway staff kept on making announcements about the arrival of the trains. Several passengers got the reservation cancelled.
As many as 2,000 tickets were cancelled by the passengers and the money was refund. A booking clerk said that the queue of passengers for getting the tickets cancelled was long since morning. The electronic information board installed on Cantt side of the railway station kept on maintaining the arrival timings of the trains that were running late. Many eyes remained glued to the board to figure out the arrival and the departure timings of trains. The passengers had to rely on tea and coffee to keep themselves warm.
The railway authorities said that the train drivers are forced to drive slowly due to poor visibility. This results into late arrival of trains.
