Protesting demolition of the city's ‘Heritage Bazaar' across Koti, Putli Bowli, Sultan Bazaar and Badi Chawdi - towards construction of the Metro Rail - the Traders Joint Action Committee (JAC) today, demanded that the bazaar remain untouched by project.Stating that the government had announced commencement of work in the area, which forms the second corridor of the project, through newspaper reports, committee members said that the government would have to face serious consequences if demolition work was carried out in the area that provides livelihood to the families of over 400 traders.“While the government maintains that notices announcing imminent demolition have been disbursed to 391 shops in the bazaar, not a single notice has been received,” said V. Kishan Yadav, president of the JAC.“The 14.78 km-long road does not require any metro owing to its length. Besides, MMTS services are available within one km radius,” he added. The committee suggested that the government change the route ailment for the metro, or that they construct an underground metro system, to avoid demolition of the bazaar.
