New Ticket Counter opens at Kannur Railway Station

The second ticket counter of the Kannur railway station started functioning today at the second entrance of the railway station.Railway officials said, the reservation facility from this building will start soon and today was only a formal inauguration.The inauguration of the building was scheduled on October 14 by Southern Railway General Manager(GM) Deepak Krishan, but it was held up by Youth Congress activists when they gheroed the GM, alleging the railway officials dropped the people representatives during the inauguration.Following this,the opening was delayed indefinitely.Later, the CPI(M) and BJP came into the scene to protest against the delay and the BJP even conducted a symbolic inauguration.Today, the railway officials informed about the inauguration of the second counter through a public announcement.More counters will be opened from tomorrow, they officials said.The divisional Railway Passengers Association welcomed the Railway's decison to open the ticket counters.
