Newly laid Nagore-Karaikal track inspected by CRS

The Commissioner of Railway Safety, Southern Circle, Bangalore, S.K.Mittal inspected the newly-laid broad gauge track between Nagore and Karaikal on Sunday evening and assessed various safety aspects.
P. V. Vaidialingam, Divisional Railway Manager, Tiruchi; S. Vijayakumaran, Chief Administrative Officer-Construction and other officials were present. Mr. Mittal initially travelled in a motor trolley from Nagore to Karaikal and inspected the track, level crossings en route and the only halt-station, Tirumalairajanpattinam.
He inspected the signals, electrical and communication infrastructure, safety requirements undertaken, display of caution and other sign boards.
Later, he conducted a high speed trial from Karaikal to Nagore in a special train, travelling at 120 km per hour.
The trial run was successful with no hitch what so ever. The Railway will take decision on the operation of services on the line after the Commissioner submits his report, , Mr. Vaidialingam, told The Hindu .
There are seven major bridges; 10 manned level crossings and over 20 minor bridges in the section. The project was sanctioned in 2002 and works commenced in 2008. It has been carried out at a cost of over Rs.50 crore.
