No proposal to run South trains from Tambaram now; SR

he Southern Railway today clarified that it had no proposal to run the South-bound train services from Chennai Egmore to suburban Tambaram. A Railway press release here said the South-bound services will continue to originate from Chennai Egmore and there were no proposals to shift them to Tambaram now. However, because of growth potential being limited at Chennai Egmore, some additional trains which would be introduced in future would originate and terminate at Tambaram, it said. The clarification comes in the wake of members of Rail Users Association and other organisations protesting agaist the move to shift the servies to Tambaram. They said Egmore station had been functioning for the past 104 years. Citing space problem, the government should not make Tambaram the terminal as it is 33.7 km away from Egmore.
