Sanvordem-Curchorem Rail Consumers' Association, South Goa, made a representation to Minister for Railways Dinesh Trivedi recently urging him to take steps to fulfil the long-pending demand of Goan railway travellers to restore many of the old South Western Railway (SWR) services en route Goa which were discontinued after Londa route was made a broad gauge in 1996.
Devanand S.N. Bhandari, president of the association, told The Hindu on Monday that Goan rail travellers suffered owing to discontinuation of some of the daily train services from Goa to other cities and towns or some trains being made bi-weekly or four days a week.
Demand
Since 2006, the association had been urging the Railways Minister to meet its demand. But there had been no positive step in this direction, Mr. Bhandari said.
Jubilee
As Goa was now celebrating its golden jubilee of Liberation, the association had appealed to the Railways Minister to solve the problems faced by people from this region by meeting their demand.
The association urged the Ministry of Railways to resume Vasco-Da-Gama-Tirupati-Hy

Daily service
It had also sought a daily fast passenger train from Vasco-da-Gama to Miraj and vice-versa and a daily Vasco-da-Gama-Mumbai CST Gomantak Express via Londa-Pune, he said.
