Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) chief E. Sreedharan, who is to demit office on December 31, will not head the proposed Kochi Metro Rail project.
The Congress-led United Democratic Front government in Kerala had been keen on getting Mr. Sreedharan for building a new-age transport system for Kochi. “Kochi Metro will be handled by the Delhi Metro. If I am here I will be involved. If I am not here I will not,” he said.
Chief Minister Oommen Chandy had expressed interest in roping in experts like Mr. Sreedharan for the 20-km Kochi Metro project. Kerala would need the help of people like Mr. Sreedharan for the Kochi Metro and high-speed rail corridor projects, Mr. Chandy told reporters in Kochi recently. Mr. Sreedharan had indicated that he was not keen on taking up other assignments after retirement.
