Heritage Special Trial took place today (23.03.2012) from CHENNAI EGMORE to GUINDY.
EIR 21 steam locomotive named EXPRESS is the world’s oldest steam locomotive, still working on COAL flawlessly. It can still pick up speeds up to 43 Kilometres per hour at stately age of 157 years.
In today’s fast moving age of consumerism when products are not supported ever after expiry of 5 to 10 years, SOUTHERN RAILWAY takes pride in supporting this 157 year old beauty. This locomotive was kept on pedestals for 101 years at Jamalpur Workshops. PERAMBUR LOCO WORKSHOPS not only restored it to is old glory and health but also fitted it with the most modern gadgets.
We propose to run two to four Heritage trips w.e.f. September 2012 with this locomotive from CHENNAI EGMORE to GUINDY or COCHIN to COCHIN HARBOUR or NAGARKOIL to KANYAKUMARI depending upon Steam Enthusiastic Tourism. Tariffs will be suitably fixed on Cost basis.
