For the comfort & convenience of its commuters, Western Railway is augmenting 24 suburban services from 9 car service to 12 car service from 2nd November, 2012. With this increase, the total number of 12 car services on Western Railway has now gone up to 1090 services per day i.e more than 95% of total mainline services. Apart from this, 14 fifteen car services are already running. • With the conversion of these 24 services from 9 car to 12 car, additional room will be created for more than 35 thousand commuters. • There has been 113% increase in 12 car services on WR in last five years where as the increase in suburban passengers has been 11% during the same period. • There has been capacity increase of 34% in last 5 yrs whereas the density of commuters i.e passengers per coach has reduced by 17% • There has been an increase of 3.48 lakh passengers per day as compared to 2006-07 whereas increase in capacity has been for more than 15 lakh passengers per day.
