ID PROOF FOR PASSENGERS OF ALL CLASSES TRAVELLING ON RESERVED TICKETS

n a major initiative to further facilitate the travel of bonafide and legitimate passengers and to reduce the scope for misuse of reserved ticketing system by unscrupulous elements/middlemen, the Ministry of Railways has decided to extend the condition of carrying original proof of identity during travel o­n reserved tickets issued through Passenger Reservation System (PRS) for all reserved classes IA, 2A, 3A, EC, CC, ‘Sleeper Class (SL)’,‘Reserved Second Class (2S)’, ‘III Economy Class (3E)’ and ‘First Class (FC)’.This change in policy will come into effect from1stDecember 2012.

            It has also been decided to expand the list of prescribed proofs of identity for undertaking journey o­n Tatkal ticket and other reserved classes which will be as follows:

1.PAN card issued by Income-tax department.

2.Driving license issued by RTO.

3.Photo ID card having serial number issued by the State/Central Government.

4.Credit card issued by banks with laminated photograph.

5.Voters ID card issued by the election commission of India.

6.Nationalised bank pass book with photograph.

7.Passport.

8.Students ID cards with photograph issued by recognised school/college for their students.

9.Unique identification card ‘Aadhaar’.

10.Photo ID cards having serial number issued by PSUs of State/Central Government, District Administrations, Municipal bodies and Panchayat administrations.

The valid travel authority in respect of all classes of reserved railway tickets is as follows:

e-Ticket

Hard copy of e-ticket + any o­ne of the above ten prescribed ID proofs in original/

Screen shot of e-ticket displayed through laptop/palmtop + any o­ne of the above ten prescribed ID proofs in original/

Ticket details  sent to the m-ticket holder o­n mobile phone + any o­ne of the above ten prescribed ID proofs in original.

For tatkal  e-ticket:  Ticket + ID proof o­n which the ticket was booked, in original.

i-Ticket

Hard copy of i-ticket + any o­ne of the above ten prescribed ID proofs in original.

3.

Tatkal ticket (including tatkal e-ticket)

Ticket + ID proof o­n which the ticket was booked,  in original.

4.

PRS ticket

Ticket + any o­ne of the above ten prescribed ID proofs in original.

            Passengers failing to produce the original ID will be treated as ticketless passengers and charged accordingly.  Xerox copies will not be accepted.
