For the comfort & convenience of its commuters, Western Railway is augmenting 26 suburban services from 9 car service to 12 car service from 21st Nov, 2012. With this increase, the total number of 12 car services on Western Railway has now gone up to 1116 services per day i.e 98% of total mainline services. Apart from this, 14 fifteen car services are already running.
·With the conversion of these 26 services from 9 car to 12 car, additional room will be created for more than 38 thousand commuters.
·There has been 119% increase in 12 car services on WR in last five years where as the increase in suburban passengers has been 11% during the same period.
·There has been capacity increase of 35% in last 5 yrs whereas the density of commuters i.e passengers per coach has reduced by 18%
·There has been an increase of 3.48 lakh passengers per day as compared to 2006-07 whereas increase in capacity has been for more than 15 lakh passengers per day.
