Pune-Ernakulam train gets Udupi stop


The twice-a-week Pune-Ernakulam superfast express started stopping here for two minutes from Thursday.

K. Raghupati Bhat, MLA, and members of the Udupi Railway Yatri Sangha, who had strived to get the stop sanctioned, were present when the train, arriving late, stopped at platform number 1 at 10.14 a.m.

They arranged a celebration and the passengers were distributed sweets.

Train no. 22149 will leave Ernakulam on Tuesdays and Fridays at 5.15 a.m. and reach Udupi at 1.48 p.m. and leave at 1.50 p.m., Satish Habbu, stationmaster, said.

Train no. 22150 will leave Pune on Wednesdays and Sundays at 6.45 p.m. and reach Udupi at 9.56 a.m. for the two-minute stop on Thursdays and Mondays.

R.L. Dias, president of the sangha, said the weekly 12483/84 Kochuveli-Amritsar and 12287/88 Kochuveli-Dehra Dun trains should be given stops in Udupi.
