Special Drive to Focus on Carrying of Valid Proof of Identity by Passengers Travelling in Reserved Coaches


Carrying of Identity Card in original by Passengers during travel was made compulsory from 1stDecember, 2012 for travel in all reserved coaches with a view to curb the activities of middle men / agents, wherein seats were cornered in fictitious names and later sold to passengers o­n premium. Based o­n the analysis of available data, it was noticed that the number of cases of passengers travelling o­n transferred tickets has shown considerable decline in the recent past.
In this connection, Railways are launching a focused Special Drive to check o­n ‘Carrying ofvalid Identity Proof in original’ by passengers travelling in all classes of reserved coaches by deputing Commercial staff for a period of o­ne week from 16thto 22nd March, 2013.
In this period, SCR will undertake publicity campaign through various Media also to sensitize the passengers and spread awareness amongst the travelling Public o­n this issue in view of the ensuing summer rush.
During this drive, Railway officials will conduct intensive checks to verify whether the passengers are carrying valid ID proof while travelling in all reserved coaches as per norms in this regard. Those who are found guilty of not carrying their valid ID proof in original or travelling o­n transferred tickets will be penalized as per the existing rules.
The list of the prescribed Proofs of Identity for undertaking journey by all reserved classes o­n tickets obtained from Passenger Reservation System Counters from general quota, Tatkal quota orthrough e-booking is as follows:-
(1)Voter Photo Identity Card issued by Election Commission of India. (2) Passport. (3) PAN Card issued by Income Tax Department (4) Driving License issued by Regional Transport Authorities (5) Any Photo Identity Card having serial number issued by Central / State Governments (6) Student Identity Card with photograph issued by recognized School/College for their Students (7) Nationalized Bank Passbook with photographs (8) Credit Cards issued by Banks with laminated photograph. (9) Unique Identification Card “Aadhaar”. (10) Any Photo identity card having serial number issued by Public Sector Undertakings or Local Bodies, Photocopy of Ration Card or Pass Books issued by Nationalized Banks with photo will be accepted as valid proof of identity o­nly for the passengers travelling in Sleeper Class. In all other cases, original proof is required.
Any o­ne of the passengers booked o­n a PNR for undertaking journey in reserved classhas to produce any o­ne of the above-mentioned prescribed proofs of identity in original during the journey failing which all the passengers booked o­n that ticket will be treated as travelling without ticket and charged accordingly. Passengers holding Tatkal tickets are required to show the same original proof of identity as indicated o­n their tickets.
