South Eastern Railway ended the financial year 2012-13 by achieving an excellent loading of 124.33 million tonnes which is 7.32 million tonnes more than last year. This achievement is 6.26 % higher than last year’s loading of 117.01 Million tonnes.
The total loading of the main commodity i.e. Iron ore has been 67.26 million tonnes which is 5.11 million tonnes more than last year’s figure of 62.15 million tonnes. This excess loading has been achieved despite drastic fall in the demand for export of Iron ore. Whereas, in 2011-12 the total export of iron ore was 8.28 million tones, this year, due to lack of export demand, the loading came down to 3.48 million tones. However, this was made good by a huge jump in the domestic iron ore loading which went up from 53.87 million tonnes in 2011-12 to 63.78 million tonnes in 2012-13.
South Eastern Railway has also improved its loading figures with respect to other main commodities namely coal, finished steel, cement and raw material to steel plants. Whereas the loading of coal has been 26.43 million tonnes as compared to 25.76 million tonnes last year, the incremental loading of finished steel has been one million tonnes more than last year (from 12.43 million tonnes to 13.43 million tones). The commodities like cement has also shown an increase of 8.52 percent over last year.
