DIRECTOR GENERAL, RAILWAY HEALTH SERVICES INAUGURATES RENOVATED EYE SURGERY THEATRE AT S. E. RAILWAY CENTRAL HOSPITAL

Dr. P. S. Prasad, Director General, Railway Health Services,Railway Board, New Delhi inaugurated the Renovated Eye Surgery Theatre of South Eastern Railway Central Hospital at Garden Reach this afternoon (8th June, 2013).
Shri O.P. Chaube, Additional General Manager, S.E.Railway graced the inaugural ceremony while Shri G.K. Mohanty, Chief Operations Manager, Dr. A.Ray, Chief Medical Director, Dr. A.P. Patnaik, Medical Director, S E Railway and other senior Doctorswere present.
South Eastern Railway is pioneer in developing state of the art separate Eye Surgery Theatre in Indian Railways. The completely separate operation theatre dedicated for eye only has been upgraded to the accepted level of strict asepsis and patient movement protocol. This will reduce the dangerous risk of infections in eye surgery.
TheEye Department of S.E.Railway Central Hospital performs about 1000 Phaco-emulsification procedures annually.It also caters to referral treatments for the complicated patients of neighbouring Railways. The services provided by the SER Eye Department include Phaco-emulsification with foldable IOL Implant, ScleralBuckle Surgery for simple retinal detachment, Vitrectomy for complicated IOL Implant procedures, Glaucoma Surgery, Squint Surgeryetc. At present, the Eye Department is equipped with20 –bedded Eye Ward, Leica make Operating Microscope with facility of real time video recording, US make Phaco-emulsification Unit and Vitrectomy Unit for managing complicated IOL surgeries.
All out efforts are being made by the two dedicated Ophthalmologists, Dr. J. Bhunia and Dr. Chaitali Basu and their team for providing hassle-free comprehensive eye service for the Railway beneficiaries.

Patnaik, Medical Director both are confident about providinginternational standard eye services at the S.E.Railway.
