The Rail Budget presented by Railway Minister to increase the speed of trains in select sectors to 160-200 km/h and also identified 12 sectors for high speed bullet train projects across the country. Higher speed for existing super fast trains can be achieved by upgrading the present rail network but bullet trains will require completely new infrastructure and Indian Railways is on its way to fulfill that long cherished dream of every Indian. Mumbai–Ahmedabad high-speed rail corridor is the first proposed high-speed rail corridor in India, connecting the two cities of Mumbai and Ahmedabad. The 650 km long high speed rail corridor will be India’s first high speed rail line.

Recently the first high-speed trial was held between the New Delhi and Agra stations and top speed achieved was 160 km/hr.Semi High-Speed Rail Corridor are plans are to start these trains on Delhi- Bhopal/Chandigarh/Kanpur and Lucknow sections.
