After missing four deadlines for commercial run of the new-age transport system, the Jaipur Metro Rail Corporation (JMRC) is now targeting to complete its pending work of four stations by December 31 and expects the commercial run by March 2015.
The first ever service run of the Jaipur Metro to acclimatize the train staff, station masters and others associated with the operation of Metro started from 6 pm to 11 pm On Tuesday. The to and fro service run from Mansarover to Chandpole stations had participation from everyone associated with the operations of the train.
A senior officer of the JMRC said, "The service run would be on for next 20 days in which everyone from station masters of nine stations, signaling staff and train operators would be on duty. This was done to acclimatize our staff with the operation of the railways. Others, including customer care executives, would also be on duty during this service run."
JMRC officials, in a meeting with state chief secretary Rajiv Mehrishi, appraised him on the progress of the much delayed project. Sources said Meharishi specifically asked the authorities including Nihal Chand Goyal, CMD, Jaipur Metro Rail Corporation(JMRC) on the deadline for finishing of the stations among other things. He had also expressed his conerns over the delay and urged the authorities to give a realistic date. The JMRC authorities informed the government about a few problems they were facing for completion of the at stations including Ram Nagar, Civil Lines, Railway station and Sindhi Camp.
"For the delay, we have pointed out the reasons to the government which included change in the design such as bringing in the elevated road component into it, ban on river sand, soaring prices of construction materials and other technical snags. We are aiming at completing the work of four metro stations - Ram Nagar, Civil Lines, Railway station and Sindhi Camp - by December 31. It will take another two months - January and Feburary - to get all the safety related clearances from the railway ministry. Thus, March would be the realistic date to start the operations of the Jaipur Metro for public," said Goyal while talking to TOI on Tuesday after the meeting.
