South Central Railway carried out continuous drives against ticketless travel, irregular travel and un-booked luggage during the period from April to September, 2014 all over the zone, with a view to ensure comfortable and safe travel of the bona-fide passengers.
As a part of these, the Ticket checking staff and Railway Protection Force personnel of SCR undertook series of regular checks, surprise checks, fortress checks, Road checks etc., during the period from April to September, 2014. During the course of these checks, a total of 14.77 lakh cases were detected. These include 4.5 lakh cases of travel without tickets; 5.23 lakh cases of irregular travel (ie., transfer of reserved tickets, adults traveling with child-without-ticket / Sr. Citizen tickets, General & Season ticket holders found traveling in reserved Coaches etc.) and 5.03 lakh cases of un-booked luggage.
An amount of Rs. 47.52 Cr. was realized from these ticketless travelers, irregular travelers and un-booked luggage cases towards penalty which is 16.7% higher when compared to the penalty realized during same period of the previous financial year, 2013.
During the month of September, 2014 itself a total of 2.57 lakh cases were detected. These include 79 thousand cases of travel without tickets; 89 thousand cases of irregular travel and 88 thousand cases of un-booked luggage. An amount of Rs. 8.7 Cr. was realized from these ticketless travelers, irregular travelers and un-booked luggage cases towards penalty which is 25% higher when compared to the penalty realized in September, 2013.
The surprise checks carried out by the Flying Squads of the Divisions and Head Quarters and fortress checks conducted by senior officials at major stations helped reduce ticketless travel to ensure comfortable and safe journey to bonafide passengers.
