SCR Seeks Rail Users to Observe Safety Precautions on Electrified Routes

Recently, two incidences on SCR have come to notice, wherein  persons came in contact with live traction wire by climbing onto  the roof  of  Coach / wagon. These incidents took place at Aler and Kazipet railway stations and the person, who climbed on the roof, sustained electrical shock and burns.  In this connection, it is to highlight that all electrified routes of the railways are equipped with  high voltage (25,000 watts) Over Head Traction wires which are highly dangerous in case anybody comes in contact with them or  tampers with the related installations.
SCR seeks to reiterate the precautionary measures needed to be observed on electrified routes by the travelling public at large, especially rail users such as Level Crossing users, Goods Shed users, military personnel accompanying military special.
Travelling public are requested to avoidclimbing on the roof of  coaches /wagon for any reason; touching the traction wire with pole, Bamboo, metallic rod; carrying out any work within two meters from Electrical Over Head Equipment / installations with out permission from railways; climbing structures supporting Electrical Over Head Equipments; trespassing in yards having electrified traction; carrying long poles or any other articles vertically in the vicinity of over head traction wires; flying kites over or near the  over head traction wires.
Road vehiclesare cautioned not to cross level crossings with loads exceeding the height of heights gauges; not to damage the height gauge;  not to travel on top of the load of road vehicle; not to carry long poles, metallic rods or any other object which may come with  in 2 meters from the Over Head Traction Wire.
Goods Shed users viz., staff of clearing agents, forwarding agents, carting agents, Lorry drivers, cleansers etc. are also cautioned not to climb on wagons while carrying out loading and unloading activities  or travel on the loaded lorries at the loading  / unloading areas of the Goods Sheds. No work shall be done with in a distance of two meters from the over head traction wire without switching off the supply and obtaining a “permit to work” from the authorized railway official. The  labourers should avoid contacting  live traction wire or fittings directly or through poles, bamboos, metallic rods etc. and also avoid using cell phones.
The military personnel accompanying military special trains are also cautioned not to get on to the roof of the military truck loaded on the wagons or project any metallic piece towards live wire.
