The South Central Railway (SCR) Mens Kabaddi team put in a sterling performance to bag the Rana Kabaddi Champions Trophy-2014, an All India ‘A’ Grade Kabaddi Tournament held at Mudhol town, Bagalkot District, Karnataka from 29th October to 02ndNovember, 2014 conducted by Karnataka Rajya Ameteur Kabaddi Association under the auspices of Amateur Kabaddi Federation of India. The SCR Womens Kabaddi Team fell at the last post, to come up Runners-Up in the Tourney.
In the Mens category, 20 teams vied for honors including such strong teams as Central Railway, Vijaya Bank, MEG etc. SCR over came Maharashtra in the Quarter Finals, beat Mahindra & Mahindra by 12 points in Semi Finals and went on to outclass Vijaya Bank, Bangalore in the toughly contested finals. The SCR team received a cash prize of Rs. 2 Lakhs for winning the Championship. Ravi Dalal of SCR was awarded the “Best Raider” and Charlathan the “Best Defender” prizes, in the form of Gold Coins of 5 grams each.
In the womens section, which also saw 20 teams battling for the trophy, SCR beat Central Railway by 8 points in Quarter Finals, Palam Sports Club, Delhi by 4 points in Semi Finals but unfortunately lost by a whisker, i.e. by 1 point to Haryana in the Finals. The team received a cash prize of Rs. 75, 000/- for being Runners-Up. Kavitha Singh of SCR was recognized as the “Best All Rounder” and was the recipient of Gold Coin of 5 grams for the same.
