First Prize in Energy Conservation

CR wins First Prize in Energy Conservation



Central Railway has been awarded First Prize o­n Energy Conservation for its efforts o­n energy conservation in Zonal Railway category for the year 2014.  The award was presented by Hon’ble Minister of State for Power (Independent Charge) to the Chief Electrical Engineer, Central Railway at New Delhi o­n 14.12.2014.



Central Railway runs about 1660 EMU services daily besides 410 mail/express trains and 346 freight trains o­n electric traction.  Total electrical traction consumption during 2013-14 was about 1890 MU with electrical bill of Rs.1432 crore.  After conversion of Kalyan-Thane section and other energy conservation measures, a saving of 25.8 MU amounting to Rs.112.74 crore has been achieved during the year2013-14.  Test charging of AC traction o­n Thane-CST section is planned o­n 20/21.12.2014 night.



In the non-traction field also, Central Railway has planned to provide many initiatives viz. provision of solar panels, solar water heating system, LED based lighting, occupancy sensors, automation of pumps, etc. which will go in a long way to further reduce electrical energy consumption.
