South Central Railway is focussing on improving and strengthening rail infrastructure and services to rail customers over its jurisdiction in tune with the expectations of Shri Suresh Prabhakar Prabhu, Hon’ble Minister of Railways, said Shri Ravindra Gupta, General Manager, South Central Railway. Addressing a press conference at Rail Nilayam, Secunderabad, today i.e., 3.11.2015, the General Manager said that SCR had shown a remarkable performance in all spheres during the last one year as result of close monitoring of train services, rationalization of operational practices, maximising the asset utilisation, increased focus on innovations and systemic improvements. All these aspects concern the priority areas on which the Hon’ble Minister of Railways has laid emphasis.
Amongst the initiatives undertaken by the Ministry of Railways in the last one year and which have been implemented by South Central Railway are the passenger interactive and feedback systems including the helpline numbers, customer complaint web portal, IVRS, Passenger feedback on train services, next generation E-ticketing system, SMS alerts, etc., Shri Ravindra Gupta informed.
Elaborating on the other attainments of SCR during the year, the General Manager said that the e-catering facility is implemented on 57 trains and at three stations of Secunderabad, Vijayawada and Tirupati; Yatri Ticket Suvidha Kendras at 17 locations; RO drinking water unit at Tirupati; running of pilgrim-special trains by IRCTC; mobile app for security; Mahila Vahini comprising of women RPF personnel; Wi-fi facility at Secunderabad; fitment of 1801 bio-toilets in 546 coaches; online retiring room at 53 stations; e-concierge services at Secunderabad, Vijayawada and Tirupati stations, etc.
The General Manager spoke on the priority being accorded to safety on which a no-compromise, zero-tolerance approach is followed. Towards security, the integrated security system at Secunderabad, Hyderabad and Tirupati, has been yielding very positive results, he added. In terms of passenger services, punctuality and running of special trains is the focus. SCR is known for its passenger amenities, towards which an amount of Rs. 120 crores has been allocated during the current fiscal. Responding to a media query, Shri Ravindra Gupta stated that works on MMTS Phase-II are progressing. In tune with stress laid by the Railway Ministry, last mile projects of Peddapalli-Karimnagar-Nizamabad new line and Nandyala-Yerraguntla new line projects are planned for completion during the current fiscal. The Mellacheruvu-Vishnupuram new line project is also planned to be completed by February, 2017. The General Manager spelt out plans for development of new rail terminals in Hyderabad city to enable decongestion of the present stations, towards which he would initiate discussions with the Telangana Government.
