Expanding the Railway connectivity in the North-East India has been the top priority of the Government under the leadership of Honourable Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, Suresh Prabhu along with the Ministry of Railways is constantly working to achieve the goal.
Last two years have witnessed major efforts to improve the railways in the region and make it well connected. All the state capitals will be connected by 2020. All states in the Northeast except Sikkim have been connected through on Broad Gauge Railway Network.
The funds utilized in the region in construction work in the financial year of 2016-17 will turn out to be about Rs. 7000 Crore as against last year's 5000 Crore.
