Shri Suresh Prabhakar Prabhu, Hon’ble Minister for Railways dedicated the newly electrified 51 km long Haridwar-Dehradun Section to the nation at a ceremony held at Gairsain (Uttarakhand) today(24.11.2016). On the same occasion, he also Inaugurated Upgraded passenger amenities works at Kathgodam, Haldwani, Rudrapur City & Lalkuan, Hempur Ismail (New 3-Line station) & Private Freight Terminal (PFT) at Kashipur and laid the foundation stone for Doubling of Haridwar-Laksar Rail line, LHS 08 Nos. Between Haridwar-Laksar, 2 Nos. Lifts and 2 Nos. Escalators at Dehradun Station, 4 Nos. Lifts & 6 Nos. Escalators at Haridwar Station and Mechanised Laundry & Second Coach Maintenance Pit at Lalkuan. Hon’ble Minister of State, Ministry of Textiles, Govt. of India Shri Ajay Tamta, Hon’ble MPs (Lok Sabha) Maj. Gen. Bhuwan Chandra Khanduri, AVSM (Retd.) and Dr. Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank, Hon’ble Leader of the Opposition Utttarakhand Shri Ajay Bhatt, were the distinguished guests who graced the occasion. Senior Executives from the Railways Shri A.K. Puthia, General Manager, Northern Railway, Shri Rajiv Mishra, General Manager, North-Eastern Railway, Shri Nikhil Pandey, Divisional Railway Manager, Izatnagar, North-Eastern Railway and Shri Pramod Kumar Divisional Railway Manager, Moradabad, Northern Railway, Shri Sanjive Roy, Chief Administrative Officer, Construction, North-Eastern Railway, Shri P.K.Sanghi, Chief Administrative Officer, Construction, Northern Railway and senior Railway officials were also present on the occasion.
The details of the various projects and initiatives on Northern Railway are mentioned below:
Commissioning of Electrification of the Haridwar-Dehradun Rail section under the Moradabad Division of Northern Railway:
Electrification of Haridwar – Dehradun single line section comprising of a total length of 51.01 Route Km with track kilometer covering 66.568 Km was sanctioned in August, 2011 at a total cost of Rs. 50.96 Crore. This project has been sanctioned as a material modification to the existing project of electrification of Ambala – Saharanpur – Moradabad section of N.Rly. as electrification of Laksar – Raiwala – Harrawala– Dehradun. The electrification of the Haridwar-Dehradun has been completed on 20.10.2016. Due to commissioning of electrification of this section, electric trains can go up to Dehradun direct without change of traction. The stations which lie on this section are Haridwar, Motichur, Raiwala, Kansaro, Doiwala, Harrawala & Dehradun. The changeover to electric traction is envisaged to result in notable savings in energy, control the pollution especially in eco-sensitive Rajaji National Park area while raising sectional speed that would result in saving of running time. Hundreds of students and working professionals and daily commuters travelling between Haridwar and Dehradun on a daily basis would benefit from this project.
Laying of Foundation Stone for Doubling of Haridwar – Laksar section( 27.03 km) along with construction of 8 Nos. LHS on Haridwar – Laksar section (Part of Double Line)
Laksar-Dehradun section of Moradabad division is an important single line section and there is heavy movement of traffic on this route. The line capacity utilization at present is more than 100%. And therefore doubling of the Laksar-Haridwar section is envisaged meet the enhanced capacity needs and meet future growth needs. The alignment for Haridwar -Laksar doubling will take off at right side of existing single line track from Laksar junction & will continue upto km 8.357km, than alignment of double line track will be shifted (by cut –connection) to left side of existing single line track up to Haridwar railway station. In this section total 06 nos. of station exists out of which station building of 04 stations will be upgraded& 01 station building will be rebuilt, total 02 nos. of major bridges are to be extended in same alignment and total 21nos of minor bridges exists which are also to be extended. In this section total 15 nos. of Level-crossings exists out of which 12nos. are manned & 3nos. are unmanned. As part of the Double Line Project, 8 Limited Height Subways shall be constructed in lieu of existing level-crossings at an estimated cost of Rs. 13.15 cr. The existing single line track is under electrification so the proposed double line track will also be concurrently electrified.
Laying of Foundation Stone for Construction of Lifts & Escalators at Haridwar and Dehradun Stations:
As a facilitative measure, Northern Railway proposes to provide lifts and escalators at Haridwar and Dehradun which would cater to the needs of rail passengers especially the elderly, disabled, women and child passengers
• Haridwar – Construction of 4 lifts & 6 escalator at a cost of Rs. 4.3 cr.
• Dehradun – Construction of 2 lifts & 2 escalator at a cost of Rs. 1.4 cr.
Speaking on the occasion Shri Prabhu stated that the Indian Railways envisages transforming this region of Uttarakhand by scripting a new chapter in the rail development through the above develop-oriented projects and customer-friendly initiatives.
