The State-wise Budget allotment for 2017-18 for various plan heads as received from Ministry of Railways indicates total allotment of Rs 3593 crores for Tamil Nadu and Kerala as against Rs.2750.06 crores in 2016-17.
Out of total allotment for Southern Railway during 2017-18 the outlay for Tamil Nadu is Rs.2287 crores (Rs.1636.00 during 2016-17) and the outlay for Kerala is Rs.1206 crores (Rs.1014.06 crores during 2016-17). There is an increase of 39.79 percentage and 18.92 percentage in the allotment for Tamilnadu and Kerala respectively over the year 2016-17.
The outlay for Passenger amenities for Tamil Nadu is Rs.38 crores as against Rs.33 crores during 2016-17 showing an increase of 15.15 percentage.
The state-wise projects for works for Tamil Nadu includes doubling of 11 Km section between Salem – Magnesite Junction – Omalur of Rs.76.43 crores , 4 electrification projects of Rs.404.16 crores, traffic facility of Rs.19.76 crores and 12 proposals for construction of 28 ROB/RUB/Subways at a cost of Rs.382.9 crores.
The outlay for Passenger amenities for Kerala is Rs.25 crores as against Rs.20 crores during 2016-17 showing an increase of 25 percentage.
The state-wise projects for works for Kerala includes the Thalassery- Mysore New line survey, Capital investment programme with state Joint Venture for Guruvayur-Tirunavaya, traffic facility works of Rs.13.5 crores and 11 proposals for construction of 21 ROB/RUB/Subways at a cost of Rs.297 crores.
