ER COMPLETED FIVE DOUBLE LINE PROJECTS DURING THIS FISCAL WHILE ELEVEN ARE ON THE ANVIL

Eastern Railway has successfully commissioned five double line projects for further improvement of traffic and passenger amenity over its jurisdiction. The projects already commissioned during 2016-17 are – Sagardighi – Azimganj Cabin, Dakshin Barasat – Lakshmikantapur, Palassey – Jiaganj, Azimganj – Manigram and Sandalia – Champapukur. Moreover, construction of eleven double lines in different routes are in progress and nearing completion. These are – Sainthia – Tarapith 3rdline, Tarapith – Rampurhat 3rdline, Liluah – Dankuni 3rdline, Dankuni – Bhattanagar, Mandarhill – Dumka – Rampurhat, Katwa – Bazarsau, Dankuni – Chandanpur 4thline, Boinchi – Shaktigarh, Bandel – Boinchi, Pirpainti – Bhagalpur and Bazarsau – Azimganj.



Apart from these, two gauge conversion works are also under active progress. In the Barddhaman – Katwa gauge conversion (51.52 km), the narrow gauge section of Barddhaman – Balgona (25 km) has already been converted to Broad gauge and the remaining stretch from Balgona to Katwa (26.52 km) is expected to be commissioned shortly. In the Ahmedpur – Katwa (51.92 km) gauge conversion, the stretch between Ahmedpur - Pachandi (39.62 km) has already been commissioned for goods traffic and the balance stretch from Pachandi to Katwa (12.60 km) is planned for commissioning very soon.



Moreover, construction of Jamalpur bye-pass line has already been commissioned while the work of new line projects viz. Tarakeswar – Bishnupur (5.50 km) and Azimganj – Murshidabad are in full swing.
