Union budget proposed for the year 2018-19, Northern Railway has received significant proposals which will strengthen the Rail infrastructure, improve passenger amenities and increase passenger satisfaction. The details are as follows:
A. Plan outlay for Northern Railway in the budget 2018-19 :
• For Construction of new lines - Rs.1607.5 cr.
• For Doubling of Railway tracks – Rs.1364 cr.
• For Traffic facilities such as Yard remodeling etc. – Rs.158 cr.
• For Rolling stock - Rs.2000 cr.
• For Road Safety works i.e. Road Over/Under Bridges work – Rs.130 cr.
• For other electrical works excluding traction distribution –Rs.625 cr.
• For passenger amenities - Rs.700 cr.
B. List of new Sanctioned Works in 2018-19 :

• Provision of Foot Over Bridges and raising the platforms to high level - Rs.5 cr. approx.

• Provision of 2nd entry at Mirjapur – Rs.15.4 cr.
• Provision of 10ft. wide foot over bridge, platform shed, etc. at Sakaldiha – Rs.3 cr.
• Augmentation of passenger amenities at Alamnagar – Rs.26.7 cr.
C. New Railway Electrification work included in budget 2018-19:
18 sections of Northern Railway will be electrified at the cost of Rs.482.69 cr. covering a route km. of 562.86 kms. The details of which are given below:
1. Himachal Pradesh :
• 40 kms. of Amb Andaura-Talwara will be electrified at the cost of Rs.34.21 cr.
• 86 kms. of Sonipat-Gohana-Jind will be electrified at the cost of Rs.80.55 cr.
2. Punjab :
• 301 kms. of Bathinda-Firozpur-Jalandhar City including Lohian Khas-Nakodar-Phillaur and Nakodar-Jalandhar will be electrified at the cost of Rs.223.93 cr.
• 339 kms. of Ludhiana-Firozpur City-Hussainiwala including Firozpur City-Fazilka-Abohar and Kotkapura-Fazilka will be electrified at the cost of Rs.235.08 cr.
• 74 kms. of Phagwara Jn.-Nawashahar Doaba-Jajon Doaba including Nawashahar-Rahon will be electrified at the cost of Rs.56.89 cr.
• 38.4 kms. of Jalandhar City-Hoshiarpur will be electrified at the cost of Rs.31.81 cr.
• 45 kms. of Verka Jn.-Dera Baba Nanak will be electrified at the cost of Rs.33.38 cr.
• 54.4 kms. of Taran Taran-Patti-Khemkaran will be electrified at the cost of Rs.41.79cr.
• 19 kms. of Batala Jn.- Quadian will be electrified at the cost of Rs.11.35 cr.
• 125 kms. of Bathinda Jn.-Abohar-Sriganga Nagar will be electrified at the cost of Rs.116.75 cr.
3. Rajasthan :
• 125 kms. of Bathinda Jn.-Abohar-Sriganga Nagar will be electrified at the cost of Rs.116.75 cr.
4. Uttar Pradesh :
• 2.46 kms. of Prayag-Prayag Ghat will be electrified at the cost of Rs.0.68 cr.
• 63 kms. of Raebareli-Unchahar including Dalmao-Dariyapur will be electrified at the cost of Rs.44.92 cr.
• 46 kms. of Phaphamau-Pratapgarh will be electrified at the cost of Rs.36.9 cr.
• 161 kms. of Akabarpur-Faizabad-Barabanki will be electrified at the cost of Rs.211.70 cr.
• 126 kms. of second line Utratia-Raebareili-Amethi will be electrified at the cost of Rs.63.32 cr.
• 23 kms. of Raja ka Sahaspur-Sambhal Hatim Sarai will be electrified at the cost of Rs.15.84 cr.
• 94.4 kms. of Faizabad-Sultanpur-Chilbila will be electrified at the cost of Rs.60.14 cr.
• 47 kms. of Janghai-Zafrabad will be electrified at the cost of Rs.49.19 cr.
D. Statewise surveys proposed :
1. Survey for 8 flyovers at the cost of Rs.0.88 cr. -
• Delhi : Brar Square, Anand Vihar
• UP : Ghaziabad , Moradabad, Unchahar, Lucknow-Manak Nagar, Sitapur
• Haryana : Jakhal.
2. Haryana :
• New bypass line for Jind-Panipat for avoiding densely populated area of Jind at the cost of Rs.0.125 cr.
• New line for Sirsa-Ludhiana via Mansa at the cost of Rs.0.3125 cr.
• New line for Prithala DFC Yard-Palwal at the cost of Rs.0.15 cr.
• Bypasses at Kila Raipur-Sanhewal & Farukhnagar-Riwari at the cost of Rs.0.255 cr. The budget allocation includes a bypass at Amausi-Transport Nagar Chord in UP.
3. Jammu & Kashmir :
• New line for Manwal-Talra via Ramkot, Bilawar and Dunera.
4. Punjab :
• New line work at the cost of Rs.10,000 cr.
• Doubling of Amritsar-Chhjeharta line at the cost of Rs.28.68 cr.
5. Uttar Pradesh :
• Doubling between Phaphamau to Unnao via Kunda Harnamganj at the cost of Rs.1,600 cr.
