The Federation of Consumer and Service Organisations, Tiruchi, has appealed to the railways to consider reopening the Ariyamangalam railway station here considering the developments taking place in the city and its outskirts.
In the larger interest of the student community, the railways could consider extending the Pudukottai – Tiruchi passenger train up to Tiruchi Fort station, the Federation's president M. Sekaran said in a release here.
Keeping in mind the rising passenger traffic, the railways could restore the Tiruchi – Chennai fast passenger, he said adding that it could consider operating a fast passenger service from Mannargudi to Tiruchi.
Maintain coaches
He said the railways should keep its coaches and toilets clean and hygienic since a number of representations on poor maintenance of coaches and toilets even in upper classes had been received by the Federation. The railways should increase the unreserved coaches adequately to meet the actual demand.
Mr. Sekaran said the Transport Corporation could introduce some services from Manachanallur, Samayapuram and Lalgudi to central bus stand via bypass road in the interest of the general public.
He claimed that there were no proper auto temperature controller in the air – conditioned buses being operated by the State Transport Corporation and State Express Transport Corporation and shawls were not being provided to the travellers.
This caused difficulty to the passengers who wished to travel comfortably on payment of higher fare, he further said.
