The new line will prove to be a boon to the Marg Karaikal Port. This will enable extending the line to Peralam to get connectivity to places like Cuddalore, Salem. This is the first step for connectivity to northern parts of the country from Karaikal, he said.
The Karaikal District Citizens' Welfare Association has pointed out that the train facility will mitigate the sufferings of the local people to a big extent. Karaikal is not well connected by road with many major cities and towns. The worst hit are the senior citizens, women, and the sick. The facility will enable them to have a comfortable journey, V. R. At present devotees reach Mayiladuthurai by the Mysore express, and travel to Tirunallar by road.
Mr. Dhanaseelane said that the Railway should also think of establishing a RMS sorting office to enable quick delivery of letters posted at Karaikal.
