Central Railway wishes its users a Happy New Year. The important events in the year 2011 are given below:
JANUARY
* ATVM Facilitators have been appointed to help the passengers to purchase tickets quickly.
* Introduction of LTT - Haridwar AC Express.
FEBRUARY
* Introduction of Shri Chhatrapati Shahu Maharaj Terminus (Kolhapur)-Hyederabad Bi-weekly Express.
* De-linking of Shri Chhatrapati Shahu Maharaj Terminus (Kolhapur)-Tirupati-Hyederabad Express as two separate trains.
* Reintroduction of ID proof for travel on Tatkal tickets.
MARCH
* Introduction of Pune-Bhubaneshwar Express
* Introduction of JanAhar at Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus. Later opened at Bhusawal, Pune, Solapur, Sainagar Shirdi and Miraj stations during 2011
* Water Purifier in Pantry Cars of Express/Mail trains for the benefit of passengers
* CR provides Additional accommodation for Libiyan Evaquees
* India Post PRS offices at Tagore Nagar, Vikhroli & Antop Hill Post offices.
* First retrofitted DC rake with AC-DC pressed into service.
APRIL
* Traffic block at Vidyavihar yard re-modelling and commissioning of 5th and 6th lines between Thane and Lokmanya Tilak Terminus.
* Running of 1516 Summer Specials (April to July)
MAY
* Science Express Exhibition Train on Display at Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus
June
* Age limit for Sr. citizen fare concession revised for women from 60 yrs to 58 yrs (concession 50%) and for men concession revised from 30% to 40% (age 60 yrs)
* Increase in frequency of Pune-Jaipur Express from weekly to bi-weekly
* Extension of Nagpur-Jabalpur Express to and from Amravati
* Speeding up of Amravati-Mumbai Express.
* Introduction of New DMU service between Diva and Vasai Road & New MEMU service between Panvel-Vasai Road
* Introduction of New weekly train between Pune and Nanded
* Provision of Foot Over Bridge at Vikhroli
* New AC-DC EMU rakes on Pune-Lonavala section & Increase in services from 40 to 42.
JULY
* Introduction of New Main Line time-table.
* Introduction of 4-digit Security Helpline no 1275.
* Shri Dinesh Trivedi takes over as Minister for Railways.
* Vivekanand Express exhibition train on display at Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus
* 29 nine car EMU services converted as 12-car services
AUGUST
* Commissioning of Water vending machine at Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus
* Aurangabad Janshatabdi Express Loco Pilot injured in Stone throwing at Kurla
* Trilingual indicator boards for suburban trains started at Thakurli, Kopar, and Diva & (at Dadar, Mulund, Ghatkopar, Kurla, Sandhurst Road under implementation.)
SEPTEMBER
* Festival Specials Specials to Varanasi/Agra Cantt./Patna/Muzaffarpur
* Festival Specials to Jabalpur/Allahabad/Gwalior and Pune-Gorakhpur
* Closure of Vikhroli Level Crossing Gate permanently
OCTOBER
* Increase in frequency of Mumbai-Howrah Duranto Bi-weekly to 4 times a week.
* 19 nine car EMU services converted as 12-car services
* New air-brake, panoramic coaches for Neral-Matheran Services.
* Prepaid Taxi introduced at Dadar
* Provision of catering services included in fare of Non-AC Mumbai-Nagpur Duranto Express
* Second AC waiting room opened at Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus
NOVEMBER
* Closure of Level Crossing Gate at Sea Woods Darave and Opening of Road over Bridge
* Shri Subodh Jain takes over as GM, Central Railway
* Extension of Lokmanya Tilak Terminus-Allahabad Express to and from Faizabad, Solapur-Gadag Express to Hubli.
* Increase in frequency of Ahmedabad-Nagpur Prerana Expres from weekly to bi-weekly
* Introduction of Pune-Secunderabad Shatabdi Express
* All 785 mainline suburban services to run with 12-car
* Booking of Tatkal tickets reduced to one day in advance excluding the day of journey.
* 35 traffic blocks were operated for widening of Road over bridges on NH-3 (for National Highways Authority of India) and work on Railway portion is completed.
* 12 traffic blocks were operated for widening of Kopri (Thane) Road Over Bridge and at Kanjurmarg for JVLR Over Bridge and work on railway portion is completed.
* Prepaid Taxi introduced at Lokmanya Tilak Terminus
* India Post PRS office at Alibaug Post office (total 19 post offices have PRS)
* Extension of FOBs at Kopar and Diva.
* Women in advanced stage of pregnancy permitted to travel in coach earmarked for physically challenged over CR Mumbai Suburban Trains
DECEMBER
* Introduction of Amravati-Tirupati Bi-weekly Express and inauguration of Model Station at Amravati
* CR wins Energy Conservation award (awarded by Ministry of Power)
* Derailment of two coaches of suburban train outside Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus.
* Tatkal scheme introduced in Duranto Trains
* 4 DC EMU rakes retrofitted with DC-AC electrics are in service.
