Railways today said it has set a four year target of completing 2,200 km of ongoing railway projects in Karnataka on a cost sharing basis.
Speaking to reporters, Minister of state for Railways K H Muniyappa said 800 km of the 3000 km of ongoing projects in Karnataka has been completed. "Currently about 150 km is executed annually and it has been decided to increase this to 500 km per year to ensure the remaining 2200 kms of projects completed in about four years," he said.
On completion, Karnataka's share in railway projects will touch 22 per cent as against the national average of 19 per cent, he said. Muniyappa was speaking after chairing a meeting with top government and railway officials to review progress in ongoing projects.
He said Karnataka also proposed four new projects covering about 1,000 km, which included Kudachi-Bagalkot, Gadag-Tumkur, Shimoga-Harihara and White field-Kolar. Muniyappa said Karnataka has transferred 2300 acres in the last four months to the Railways following setting up of a Committee headed by the Chief Secretary to resolve land acquisition problems.
The survey on introducing a high speed train between Bangalore-Chennai is under progress, he said.
