Metro Phase-III INA Station to be a Major Interchange Hub

Delhi Metro’s new INA Station for Phase-III which is going to be constructed adjacent to the existing operational INA Metro Station will be a major interchange hub of South Delhi providing connectivity between the Jahangirpui HUDA City Centre (Phase II) and the Mukundpur – Yamuna Vihar Metro corridors (Phase III).Presently, the operational INA Station provides Metro connectivity to three major shopping attractions of the capital namely Sarojini Nagar, INA Market and Delhi Haat. With the opening of this new Station, connectivity of the residents from North, West and East Delhi localities such as Mukundpur, Rajouri Garden, Mayur Vihar etc. will be eased as people from these areas will be able to come to these shopping centers directly.

Presently, the residents of these far-flung localities find it inconvenient to come and visit these centers owing to inadequate alternative public transport facilities. Students travelling between the North and South campuses of the University of Delhi (DU) will also be able to commute by the Metro by using INA as an interchange Station.

The residential areas of Sarojini Nagar and Laxmi Bai Nagar will also be benefitted from the new Station as this Station will provide connectivity to all parts of Delhi (towards Vishwavidyalaya – Jahangirpuri in North, towards Hauz Khas – Qutab Minar – Gurgaon in South, towards Rajouri Garden – Mayapuri in West and towards Mayur Vihar – Anand Vihar in East).

From the construction perspective also, this Metro Station is going to be unique as the platform will be constructed above the concourse for the first time in Delhi Metro; because of the height variation between the existing INA Station and the upcoming new INA Station owing to the already existing Metro tunnel at the location. The DMRC has modified the Station design to adjust to the new circumstances. The Station will have five entry/exit points for the convenience of the passengers with three of them being planned for the new INA Phase III Metro Station.

As per the Detailed Project Report (DPR), the interchange load of this Station will be 1, 29, 881 in 2016 on a daily basis. Presently, the daily footfall of the operational INA Metro Station is 37, 000 (approximately).
