RAILWAY MINISTER COMMENCES CONSTRUCTION WORK OF DEVELOPMENT OF TAPA, SANGRUR & BARNALA STATIONS AS ADARSH STATIONS, LAYS FOUNDATION STONE FOR LEVEL-CROSSING AT SANGRUR


Hon’ble Minister for Railways Sh. Pawan Kumar Bansal today commenced construction Work Of Development Of Tapa, Sangrur & Barnala Stations in Punjab As Adarsh Stations which also includes installation of Solar Panel at the station along with provision of facilities of Computerized Passenger Reservation System and Unreserved Ticketing Systems at Tapa and also commenced construction work of Road Over-Bridge (ROB) at KM 77/0-1 near Sangrur at Level Crossing No. A-66/2.These development projects were commenced at a ceremony held at Tapa railway station today. Sh.Vijay Inder Singla, Hon’ble Member of Parliament (Lok Sabha), Sardar Sukhdev Singh Dhindsa, Hon’ble Member of Parliament (Rajya Sabha), Sh. Prakash ChandGarg, Chief Parliamentary Secretary, Punjab, Mohd. Sadique, MLA Bhadaur, Punjab were the distinguished guests present on the occasion. Sh.V.K.Gupta General Manager, Northern Railway, Sh. P.K.Sanghi, Divisional Railway Manager, Ambala, Senior Railway officers were also present.

Tapa railway station in District Barnala has been converted to a “Green Station” with the installation of a 10 KW solar panel. In addition, at an approximate cost of Rs.60 lakhs extensive work is being done to improve the station. The station is being provided with new “pay & use” toilets, while the circulating area is being improved with the provision of high mast lighting and the old waiting hall is being provided with Kota stone flooring. New PRS & UTS (Computerized Passenger Reservation centre & Unreserved Ticketing System) will also be provided at Tapa and Lehra Gaga Railway Stations. Similarly, the additional passenger amenities will be provided at Sangrur & Barnala stations. The Road Over-Bridge (ROB) at KM 77/0-1 near Sangrur at Level Crossing No. A-66/2 has been identified for replacement, keeping in view the high road traffic density. The two-lane ROB will be built at the total cost of Rs 30.26 crore, over NH-7 connecting Patiala to Barnala on the Dhuri-Jakhal section. The casting of test piers is in progress.With the construction of this ROB the traffic bottle neck will be eliminated. A new foot over bridge (FOB) and a new platform shelter is being built at Sangur Station.

With these development-oriented projects, the Railway lays down the blue-print for modernity and socio-economic progress of the State.
