SCR Takes Active Steps to Clear Passenger Rush in Summer by Additional Coaches and Special Trains

Keeping in view the passenger demand for rail travel, South Central Railway has taken several steps to clear extra rush of passenger traffic during this summer season. Thesemeasures include Permanent augmentation of existing trains with additional coaches, attaching extra coaches to existing trains to clear waitlisted passengers and running of special trains o­n popular routes to cater to the needs of the passengers to reach their destinations comfortably.
Permanent augmentation of coaches o­n existing trains: South Central Railway rationalized the deployment of coaches and permanently augmented many existing trains o­n popular routes recently with 63 additional coaches (31 Sleeper Class, 19 AC 3-Tier, 9 AC 2-Tier, 4 General Second Class Coaches). It enhanced the carrying capacity o­n 22 trains by providing additional berths/seats to passengers o­n permanent basis.

Extra coaches to existing trains: Close watch is being kept o­n the waiting list position of various important trains. Whenever the wait list is o­n the higher side, extra coaches are being attached for the benefit of the waitlisted passengers. During the month of March 2013, 506 no. of extra coaches were attached clearing 29,000 no. of waitlisted passengers. This process will continue and extra coaches to the extent possible will be attached o­n a daily basis.
Special Trains:South Central Railway has been operating special trains o­n popular routes to meet the extra rush of passengers during festival / holiday seasons o­n a regular basis. Accordingly, SCR has already announced a large number of Special trains to meet the demand in the current summer season also. During the months of April, May and June 2013, 258 no. of Special train services will be run (as announced up to 2ndApril 2013) o­n various routes connecting popular destinations such as Hyderabad, Tirupati, Visakhapatnam, Karimnagar, Renigunta, Machilipatnam, Kakinada, Guntur, Nanded, Aurangabad, Bangalore, , Mumbai, Kollam, Kolhapur, Indore, Jaipur, Sri Ganga Nagar, Darbanga etc.,
