Platforms at Pune Railway Station may be lengthened

With a view to make the Pune Railway Station more passenger-friendly, the Pune Railway Division  recently forwarded a proposal to the Railway Board to extend the length of the platforms at the station.Speaking about the development on Thursday, Divisional Railway Manager Suneet Sharma told Sakal Times that the current platform length at the station is not suitable for 24-coach trains.“Soon, most trains will have 24 coaches and hence a proposal  to increase the length of the platforms at Pune Railway Station has been sent to the Railway Board,” he added.Speaking about the other upgradations that would come up at Pune Railway Station within a year, Sharma said, “For the convenience of passengers, we are constructing two new foot overbridges (FOB) and escalators at the Pune Railway Station.”He added that the construction work of FOBs and escalators is likely to take another six months for completion.Railway officials stated that with the aim of providing better facilities, the Pune Railway Division has planned to construct two new FOBs, one at the Solapur-end and the other at Tadiwala Road.A railway official said, “The width of the foot overbridge will be 4.5 metres. One of the bridges will connect platform number one to six, while the other will connect platform number one to three. We have also planned to install four escalators, two on platform number one and two on platform number six.”
Sharma said the proposal for installation of escalators has been sanctioned and the work is likely to commence soon.
