OVERLOADING OF PARCELS IN VPH (PARCEL VAN)
BY TRAIN NO.16031 CHENNAI CENTRAL – KATRA ANDAMAN EXPRESS
AND PUNITIVE ACTION TAKEN AGAINST CONTRACTOR
The contractor who leased the parcel van of Train No.16031 Chennai Central – Katra Andaman express, loaded parcels into the parcel van over and above against the carrying capacity of 23 tonnes and excess of 18.50 tonnes.It was noticed at Bitragunta station by the railway staff.Then the train moved upto ongole station at a restricted speed and 6.1 tonnes were unloaded.Then the train moved to Vijayawada Jn. where the parcel van was detached, weighed and kept in the coaching yard, Vijayawada.The above train left Chennai Central on 10.03.2016.Further, on investigation the following actions were taken against the contractor for violating the agreement and endangering the safety of the passenger carrying train.
1.The contract was suspended for three months.
2.Heavy penalty imposed against the contractor.
3.Show cause notice given as to why the contract should not be terminated.
4.Orders given to lodge police complaint against the contract staff for criminal negligence endangering public safety.
Such serious violations endangering passenger safety might also cause train accidents.Giving utmost priority to safety, Railway warn that such type of excess loading will not be permitted and the contract will be terminated.
It may be recalled that on a complaint published in a newspaper on corruption in parcel office, a high level enquiry is already under progress.
Further, public are requested to report any instance of corruption, over-charge, demanding bribe.The passengers/customers are requested to immediately inform and register their complaint on the following telephone nos: 90031 60969, 90031 60995, 044 – 2535 3148.
