Railway officials launch cleaning drive

Adequate number of trains is being operated in the Tiruchi-Thanjavur section to cope with the increasing flow of passengers, following the hike in bus fares, said Abdul Rehman, additional divisional railway manager, here on Wednesday.He inaugurated the mass cleaning programme at Thanjavur Railway junction by issuing pamphlets carrying messages on the need to keep the station and trains clean. Handouts were also given to passengers waiting for trains and those who alighted from Tiruchi-Mayiladuthurai passenger which arrived at Thanjavur junction at 9.30 a.m.Announcements were made in public address system in the station to maintain sanitation on the premises and trains.Referring to the memorandum of Thanjavur residents demanding operation of a day train and a night train from Thanjavur to Chennai, he assured to recommend the demand to higher authorities.He said that fund may be allotted for laying of new Thanjavur-Ariyalur railway line in the railway budget.
