Railway staff led by the Southern Railway Mazdoor Union (SRMU) on Monday staged a protest in front of the office of Divisional Railway Manager demanding better safety norms in the light of the death of a worker at the Diesel Loco Shed in Tondiarpet.
Alleging the death of T.R. Balakrishnan to be a violation of safety norms, SRMU leaders Paul Maxwell Johnson and P.R. Sarangapani said accidental deaths in yards occurred due to the negligence of administration in setting right various deficiencies. The SRMU protest was also against non-creation of new posts in railway car sheds in spite of official assurances.
