Railways commence probe into Kashmir Valley's train derailment

Railways today began inquiry into the train derailment in south Kashmir's Anantnag district last month in which more than 20 persons were injured. "R K Kardham, Commissioner of Railway Safety, Northern Circle today began the inquiry into the accident that took place on November 23," an official spokesman said. A number of witnesses were examined at Budgam Railway office on first day of inquiry, which will continue tomorrow, he said. "Anyone from general public, interested in providing any information regarding the accident, can also depose before the inquiry tomorrow during working hours," he added. At least 20 persons were injured on November 23 when a train from Qazigund to Srinagar derailed in Kulgam district. It was the first such incident since train services were launched in Kashmir Valley in 2008. Preliminary inquiry had suggested that the accident took place because of problem in the brakes of the train
