Delhi Metro Training Institute Establishes Special Troubleshooting Simulators For Training Maintenance Staff

To ensure high standards of reliability and safety of Metro trains, the Delhi Metro has installed seven independent training simulators for the maintenance of different sub-systems of a train such as the Brakes, Air Supply, Door System, Auxiliary System, Traction System, Train Air-Conditioning and Train Control Management System (TCMS). These simulators are set up in the Training Institute of Delhi Metro at Shastri Park. This is the first time in India that such state of the art technology is used for the purpose of maintenance training. The troubleshooting simulators simulate all the faults that may appear in a Metro train and are used to Train DMRC staff in quick and effective diagnosis of train faults. The simulators will also allow them to practice the replacement of critical components in a 3D virtual environment. E-learning Package, wall charts and other training aids will supplement the simulator in transferring knowledge and skills to the DMRC staff. The Hi-tech and state of the art simulators will help in improved training effectiveness and will also reduce the training period. Presently, there are two ‘Simulators’ in the Shastri Park Training Institute where the train operators learn the fundamentals of driving the Bombardier and ROTEM Metro trains. Later, they are taken for actual train handling on the ‘Test-Track’ in the Shastri Park Depot during the night hours. The Delhi Metro Training Institute is the only training institute in South Asia in Metro operations that has been accorded with ISO 9001:2008 certification, a validation from the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) for maintaining standards in Quality Management System (QMS) in Training. The Delhi Metro Training Institute was established in 2002 at the Shastri Park Depot and has more than 30 classrooms/model rooms which could accommodate over 800 trainees at a time. The Institute has already trained more than 7000 employees from Operations & Maintenance (O & M) Wing, CISF personnel, Delhi Police, Bangalore Metro, Contractor’s staff (for ticketing, customer facilitation, etc), Customer Relation Assistants (CRAs), and other departments of the organization
