The last hurdle for the laying of the railway line from Gulbarga to Bidar has been crossed with the State Government completing the acquisition of 932. 27 acres identified in Gulbarga district by the Railways.
Assistant Commissioner Sangappa who oversaw the land acquisition, told The Hindu that the completion of the acquisition process was a new year gift to the people of the region.
“The new train line between Gulbarga and Bidar will usher in development and satisfy the long-pending demand of the people of the two districts,” he said.
The foundation stone for the project was laid when Bangaru Laxman was the Minister of State for Railways in the National Democratic Alliance Government.
It was delayed on account of problems in acquiring land, insufficient funds and frequent changes in alignment of the line. The Gulbarga-Bidar route is considered important as it will reduce the travelling time between Bangalore and New Delhi by over an hour and accelerate development in the region. .
